E36 M3 ls1 swap
« on: October 05, 2010, 01:27:37 AM »
Wanted to post up some info on my M3 build. Justin has helped alot developing a new mounting kit for my e36. I did not like the other options out there for mounting the ls1 into e36 cars, So I asked Justin if he wanted to make a new kit.

Mounting kit. Very nice.

I'm also looking at trying this swap.  Why are you going with the BMW AC compressor?  Less lines to modify?  Will you still be able to operate the AC using the GM ecu?

Thanks.

I had a fun day at Thunderhill with Nasa running group four. I still need to work on the suspension to dial it in before I start to push the car more. The suspension still feels soft so I might need to up the spring rates. I was able to hit 140 mph before turn one.

Watch it 1080

i am almost done with a similar swap in my 98e36, what muffler is that? looks like a magna flow, are you running it in reverse so the inlet is the outlet? looks like a great fit if so. Did you think about running a crossover pipe?

Took my m3 out to Reno fernley Raceway Saturday for some testing. I started the day running 2.08 without splitter and 38psi hot in the tires. I took some air out of the tires 36 PSI hot and 3.8* camber and got my times down to 2.04. I then put on my front splitter and the car felt like a hole new car, best time with splitter 1.59. I am now convinced that I need larger tires on the car, right now I am using 255 NT01 and they are just not holding the way that I would like. I am going to try 285/30/18 next. The car at the beging of the video is a Ultima Can-Am, very fast car. The Ultima Can-Am was ran a best of 1.53. I still need to work on my lines and push the car more, but before I do I want larger tires. This was my 1st time running this track configuration.
