Dual 3" Exhaust Escapade
« on: December 14, 2014, 11:17:06 AM »
New Videos at the beginning of the post

New setup is dual dynomax bullets and dual dynomax ultraflows

Cruising interior dB went from 100 to 85. It sounds quite a bit louder in person as always

Overall I am very happy

Lol, hit a corner a little faster than expected.

When I purchased my car I had a single 4" exhaust with a vibrant muffler. Other than the fact that its looks werent really for me, it was much too loud and droned. I wanted something more mellow that, IMO, fit the car better.

I started researching exhaust options for the FD and I wasnt too impressed with what I could come up with. I ultimately decided to do something a little different and take a risk with mufflers that I had never heard before. LOL.

I had Anthony (V8rx7) build me a custom exhaust with two Dr Gas 3 trap Spinpro mufflers and an X pipe. The Dr Gas mufflers were a little heavy but seem very sturdy. Both the 3 trap and 4 trap mufflers should fit an FD.

I have to say that his work is absolutely amazing and that he is a very knowledgeable and extremely nice guy. Id highly recommend him for any LA area fab work you need.

This is what he came up with

The only problem with this exhaust is that it is loud as balls. Its right at 100dB in the car while cruising and God knows how how under heavy throttle. The tone is great which I know is 100% subjective but it really needs to be toned down not only for my ears but I dont need attention from cops here in the peoples fascist republic of California.

The next step will be to add a few bullet mufflers, resonators, j pipes or any combo of the 3. After I do, I will upload more videos

Which is everyone's favorite bullet muffler and why?

You need some resonators up front or something. Looks like he did a beautiful job. Those mufflers aren't likely quieting much of anything down hahaha.

Thanks, I agree he's talented. I'm thinking of putting louvered resonators and then some bullets

I really like how you have your exhaust ran. very similar to what I did with my LS6. I did round Magnaflow mufflers at the bumper with nothing else in the system. I have a stock engine with factory manifolds and mine isn't too loud, maybe quieter than yours even.

Why add more weight and cut into that nice exhaust system, replace your heavy mufflers with some different lightweight muffler(s) out back.

Its def gotta be quieter than mine, there isnt much stock about my setup. Thanks for the compliment, it really is sweet and tucked under there nicely.

The current plan it to just swap out the rear mufflers actually. In terms of quieting it down there is a ways to go lol.

I am working with Halfspec's former exhaust which was made by Kevin Doe.  I plan to add a Magnaflow dual 3" in/out part# 12469 to replace the standard X-pipe.  It still crosses but should give some nice suppression.  After a little preliminary fitment, it should all tuck under there nicely.

Digging up a slightly old thread here, but any chance of pics or part numbers for the latest Dynomax setup?

When you say "dual" do you mean 2 off or 2-in-2 out? I assume the bullets are 2 of, but what about the ultraflows? They don't appear to do a dual in/out in 3" and surely there's no way to fit 2 of those in?

Just thinking that I might ship some mufflers over and get them made up here.

It was an x pipe with 2 3inch outlets. The ultraflows were si/so and yes there was 2 of them. Ultimately, there were 4 mufflers if you include the bullets. The ultraflows were the smallest ones that dyno max makes, idk the pn though.

Good luck

This is my car now.
The Ultraflows at the rear are turned vertical and welded together, with the inlets centered and the outlets at the bottom, and two upswept outlets cut at an angle.  Everything is 3" SS.
I like the look and sound, and the guy who did the fab work did a very nice job.
The removable mid-pipe makes working on the car easy.  I've had it out and back in several times.

Thanks for the extra info. Are the bullets before or after the X-pipe?
