FD cooling system?
« on: May 11, 2010, 05:09:34 PM »
What are your guys using for radiator, fans, thermostat?  What kind of temps are you seeing sitting and idle?  I'm going to be changing mine soon and am looking for new ideas on what works and what doesn't.  Thanks!

Ls3, GTO front drive accessory,  Samberg rad w/cai his old fan setup.  190 stock tstat. (thinking of changing to a 160)  Works GREAT, just a tad low for what I need around here.   Been talking with Justin on a new custom setup.  Looking for ideas for I have it built

Here's a few quick shots of my setup.  It's a Howe 34329-RNF, it is a double pass 3" radiator measuring 26.375x 16 with the inlet and outlet on the driver's side.  I fitted it up so that the bottom of the radiator was just slightly higher than the tow hooks which put the top of the radiator about 1/2in above the crossbeam which holds the relays. I had 2 pieces of 3" Aluminum angle welded to the side tanks for $35.00 to give the unit vertical support. I found some nice fitting radiator hoses which I had to trim slightly, I have the part numbers if anyone is interested. The inline fill is connected by 2 pieces about 90* one is 1-1/2 to match the inlet radiator size and the other 1-3/8" to match the LS1 water pump.

I almost never see above 180*F, the highest I have ever seen is 195*, stock thermostat.  I'm running stock RX-7 fans set up as "pullers", no additional ducting.

Hopefull this will give you a few ideas... I really like the tab-style mounts I added, and FWIW howe lets you cusomize radiators as well.

I have the same radiator completely ducted and see the same temps as matt. They are rock solid on the track as well.

I will be running Justin Sambergs rad/cai setup.  What temps were u pulling, making me wonder if that setup will be efficient enough?

With the stock thermostat I idle 192-194.  Very hot days 196-198.  Running freeway its between those two.  Its a very stable setup.

I'm running a Ron Davis Racing radiator with a fully shrouded dual fan setup and a 160* thermostat. I typically see engine temps in the 180-190* range. That Ron Davis radiator has a 3" thick core  :o . I still need to finishing ducting the lower radiator area (where the stock plastic ducting was).

Couple of pics:
