The internal slave of a the LS1 can be finicky. Organic friction disks can work clutch dust past the hydraulic seal (there's some info and links in my build thread) so they don't need any extra challenges with heat at the same time. At a minimum I'd try to run the line as far from exhaust as you think is realistic and then wrap it in insulation. I used a rubber hose split end to end.

Car was falling on it's face after WOT, was sending false crank sensor failure codes, randomly going in and out of "learning mode", would start up and run, then next time be hard to start, running super rich.. stuff like that.
