Later this month I'll be taking a business trip to Hanover Germany. Anyone live near there? Recommend places to visit? I'll have a free weekend and potentially a few week nights free.
I already checked on the Nürburgring and looks like no chance of getting on track. There is a race or two over the weekend so I may go watch. Is there anything decent for spectators at that track?
I'm open to suggestions.
Drive down the Rhine if you can get to that area. Visit a couple of ruins. Take in a wine tasting along the way. The drive is amazing along the Rhine.
Bremerhaven is where Germans go when they go on vacation. Beautiful area along the ocean.
Head over to Berlin. Lots of history there.
Wolfsburg I believe has a great tour of the VW plant.
Drive straight over to Amsterdam. Get lucky. lol
i went there on business last year, just make sure to drink lots of beer. I not even a fan of beer but its so good there.
If you have a day or 2 to travel i would definantly look at going to Koln or Berlin. Not sure when your going to be there but for the nurburgring any of the days labeled as tourist days are open for driving a laparound the nordschleife, if its a VLN weekend its part of a smaller scale german racing series and usually has a lot of touring cars. The ring also has go cart facilities, a hotel with casino, a motorsport museum and of course some ring oriented shops all owned by the failed investor who built the tourist complex and subsequently bankrupted it. The beer and food is great and the country has so much history you cant go to any major city without at least seeing a handful of historic buildings.
BTW, I would seriously not recommend you take the rental on the Ring track. (if you have a rental) All the rental companies monitor the GPS on those cars. You will end up buying the car with the fines they will impose.
For all 'ring research use this website
http://nurburgring.org.uk/The below link highlights where to watch on the Nordshleife and how to get there. Viewing is pretty good, but it's a big circuit so expect some hefty walking. Make sure you understand the difference between the old (Nordshleife) and new (GP Nurburgring) circuit. The 2 are linked, but usually separated so you can still drive the old, while they are racing on the new.
http://www.northloop.co.uk/photography.htmThe Marshalls reportedly watch out for the local hire cars and turn them away or report. You can hire dedicated 'ring cars locally however, but they are not cheap. Oh and if anything goes wrong they will charge you, even for the pleasure of printing out the bill!
LOL at that article.
That was funny.
But on a serious note. There is talk and speculation that the Ring will be shut down due to no monetary support.
They've been talking about it for about a year now. We can only hope they get the copy built in Nevada like was mentioned a few months ago in an article I read.

That article had me for a few sentences. We dont need a copy of the track, just a 10+mile road course would be awesome.
