Those measurements in millimeters are off, or maybe they just need a decimal point somewhere. 1000mm = 1m = about 39 inches.

can someone confirm the following:
1986-1988 TII diff = clutch type
1989-1991 TII diff = torsion

I have a 89 Turbo II and if I'm not mistaking the rear end ( differential ) unlocked on me a few times , is it possible ?
I'm used to clutch type diff. so we can rebuilt them but looks like the 89-91 is different. Can I have it rebuilted ?
If not , can I swap a 86-88 Clutch type in it and keep my gears ?

you can swap the pig, and be done with it.

1986-1988 TII diff = clutch type
1989-1991 TII diff = torsion
Confirmed.
Second that confirmation.

From what I understand about the TII diffs are:
S4 has equal length stub shafts
S5 has unequal length stub shafts
If you pop them out you should be able to differentiate between them.
86-88 (S4) is clutch type
89-91 (S5) is torsion

S4 has equal length stub shafts
S5 has unequal length stub shafts
That means if I swap a S4 differential in my 89 Turbo II I will need to find S4 Stub shaft too ?
I'm writing down my shopping list.

Is there way to tell from the outside what year TII rear you have? If not which is the easier way to tell, pop the diff cover off and look inside or pull the stub shafts out and measure them (p.s. I have never peaked into or taken apart a diff, I just know I have a TII diff in my garage with matching axles... but I don't know if it's the clutch style or not)

S5 diffs are viscous. US FC's never got the torsen, but apparently JDM efini's did. FD diffs are all torsen.
