Red 1993 LS1 FD Build
« on: January 08, 2011, 06:25:05 PM »
Hi Guys,

I finally got to a point in my build that i can post some history, current build progress and future plans.

I bought my 1993 chassis 2 yrs ago as a roller, no motor, trans or seats.

[attach=1]

I also bought a LT1/T56 combo, because i was def on a budget.

The LT1 i bought turned out to have 3 bad cylinder and needed a rebuild.

I ended up buying a LS1 longblock and planning my build from there.

I have since compliled every part neccesary for the build, and will be starting assembly shortly.

I want to thank all the great members on this board for the advice, reference and parts that made this build possible.

Latest news is the engine bay has been fully prepped, and I am now ready to pull the oil pan on the motor to inspect and replace rod bolts.

I sold the LT1 model and purchased a LS1 model, although i researched the swap, i found a good deal on the LS1.

Well after a few unsuccessful attempts to post a new write up and new pics i made a youtube slideshow and uploaded it.

Below I included the link to the new video.

The project has been great, alot of hard work, but i had great help along the way.

Most of the work was done end of January 2011, when most of the pics were taken.

Thanks to this forum for the great ideas, and solutions to help make this a reality.

Special thanks to PEZ Performance guys! PEZ Wiring Harness was the key.

Update 5/12/2011

Finalized  the intake unit, trimmed ends of a chrome 45 elbow, and using silicon couplers, added the bigger MAF and into a carbon fiber K&N filter unit.

It slopes down in front of Radiator and pulls air in from mouth of bumper cover. Fitment is good. Clearances are tight but it lines up good. Bottom of the filter is about 2 inches above bottom of radiator when installed.

Have to extend wiring for MAF, and mount in the AC condensor before final assembly.

[attach=1]

[attach=2]

I pulled out the rear springs to put the stock ones in. The ones that were installed, here on left, were way too low.

[attach=3]

I'll keep this updated,

should be working again tomorrow.

Damn that intake looks like it will be a tight fit. FD is looking great man! Keep up the good work, I just finished mine and I still can't believe how fast the thing is! These cars with these motors are just rockets lol.

Update 5/15/2011

Trimmed front rad support and test fit condenser and intake. Its tight but everything coexists.

[attach=1]

As seen from the front with bumper cover on

[attach=2]

Another angle showing condenser line hook ups

[attach=3]

Also was able to complete the suspension, the rear springs were replaced with the stock springs to improve ride height, it was too low with the springs that were in it.

I'm gonna be removing the carpet and seats for cleaning, and should be working on the interior/audio install this week, i have a roll of B-Quiet (like Dynamat) on its way.

Update 7/7/2011

Been a while since i posted here

The interior is still a work in progress, however i did get the hood and front fenders, bumper cover and headlight covers back from body shop

Hood looks really good with the front scoop redone to fit the intake pipe

and the mid vents bubbled out to clear the fuel rails
[attach=1]

thanks for checkin out the updates, hopefully this month ill have time to get interior and oil leak fixed up.
