VIR Trackday photo's
« on: December 10, 2010, 12:20:13 AM »
Just a few shots from last weekend's Chin motorsports event.... it actually snowed on us! The track dried off the next day, and off we went! Track conditions were actually really good, the car had tons of grip, in fact traction control never came on once! I was really pleased with the way the car handled, and performed. It was my first time at this track, and first time in this car. I drove it 700 miles to the track, 327 on track, and 700 home without issue, which is a huge first for me. Makes me love it even more.

Whoa thats a first for me, that is first time seeing snow during a track event. Must have been pretty crazy.

That being said I am surprised you were able to get any grip. Most performance tires start to drop off in peformance sharply, and at least from what I've seen under 50 degrees they have less grip than a standard all season tire till you warm them up. Were you able to go anywhere near WOT on corner exit?

Did you run the full course?

Yea, oddly enough as soon as you completed a lap and a half or so, they gripped like mad. I honestly was blown away by how much grip there was. I have full traction control, and like I said it only activated once all weekend, and it wasn't because I was being a sissy with the throttle. I was just on street tires as well. Really pleased with it. And yes it was the full course.

Congrats on the successful trip.     I concur, it's funny seeing the snow in the background.   :)

Nice.  I have crested the hill at the end of the back straight during snow flurries myself.  That point on the track is REALLY exposed and gets very, very slick.

Great pics.  You really see how little the FD really is.  Also props to having a car that can go nearly 2,000miles without issues and driven HARD!

How did you do against the Porsches and other high end cars?

I think I held my own pretty well. I was faster than some, slower than others. My buddy has an 08 GT3, and he was def a good bit faster. I hit 140 on the back straight, lifting on top of the hill, and he hit 153 going just a tad deeper.

Its great being able to drive you car hundreds of miles to a track day, driving the piss out of it, and then driving it home without a hickup.

We should definitely do a SNS at VIR.  I'd try and make the trip from MA.  I've only been there once and I'd love to go back again.

Nice pictures, especially in the snow. Last time I went I took my car almost up to 7000 redline in 5th gear on the back "straight"
