FD Hood Strut/Damper Kits "Part III"
« on: December 27, 2014, 01:53:48 PM »
I finally have another batch of FD Hood Strut/Damper Kits up for sale and ready for shipment.  This is following up on the group buy I did around this time last year that was very well-received and produced many happy customers.  If you care to read up on the last group buy, you can find it here:

http://www.norotors.com/index.php?topic=18136

As many of you know, the factory hood prop rod is often lost to make room for radiator and intake setups on V8-swapped FD's.  There are a handful of kits on the market which use Gas Struts to assist in opening/closing the hood as well as propping it in an open position thus fully replacing the factory prop rod.  Unfortunately, the majority of the kits use a "cheap" design for the hood bracket which only captures one of the two hinge studs leaving a design that tends to twist and cause headaches for the end user.  The high quality option on the market which captures both studs is very expensive and is not currently available (as far as I can tell).

-All necessary hardware for a clean install

I had two members try out aftermarket hoods on the last group buy and I got mixed results. one member said that the hood flexed too much while closing for his taste (but that being said, it did work) and the other said it was fine.  I would definitely recommend getting the kit sans the damper/struts and buying 30# struts from Mcmaster on your own (mine are 40# for the stock hood).  if you are interested in going this route, shoot me a PM and I can give you a price for this special kit.

if you decide to stop making these, let me know.  I will pick up a kit to have on the shelf for when my wife actually lets me own two FD's... HA!

Do you have a picture from the side by chance so we could compare the lift angle to the prop rod?

The low lift level of a lot of kits is what has kept me from getting one.

I will get some pictures posted soon of the hood angle.  I will say it is nearly the same as with the prop rod... within 5% or so.  But a picture should be worth 1,000 words.
