411 PCM advantage over 4896?
« on: January 17, 2011, 04:36:02 PM »
I am beginning to step into the LS world and need some advise.
I understand the 411 PCM was used in 2001-2002 F bodies after the 4896 in 99-2000 models.
I  have read that you can inerchange them both without any issues in 99-02 F Body harnesses.  Can someone confirm that?
What are the main differences between both? Is it faster processors or additional programming features?  If I can choose right now, is tere an advantage from one over the other?
The 0411 PCM is a bit more expensive. There should be a reason for that, I guess.
Thanks for your opinions.

99-02 PCMs are fully interchangable, less the emissions circuits. 01&02s don't have provisions for EGR or air pump circuits.
FC/FD plug and play wiring harnesses, LSx swap AC systems, LSx swap power steering lines.

Thanks Gregg.

So if I got this right, the 01 & 02 harnesses dont have the EGR and air pump circuits, and the PCM's dont have those parameters in the software either.  You could run a 01 or 02 PCM in a 99 or 00 car without any issues.  If you run a 99-00 PCM with a 01 or 02 harness you would have to delete the EGR and air pump via programming?
Is that correct?

Any clues as to why are the 411 PCMs more expensive?

Found some more information searching other sites:

A 9354896 PCM can be flashed with a 12200411 calibration.

and also:

if you flash a 9354896 with a 12200411 file you must use the wiring diagram for the 411 file/vehicle

if you flash a 411 with a 896 file you must use the wiring diagram for the 896 file/vehicle

as an example pin 33 on the red connector, on the 896 pcm is for the recirculation door control, but with the 411 file pin 33 on the red connector is the high speed fan relay control

so if you use the wiring for the file you are using you will be fine

I don't believe that any of the circuit differences are relevant in a swapped car, unless you have emissions.

What years, makes, and models do those 2 PCMs come from?

9354896 PCM Out of 99-2000 F bodies
12200411 PCM out of 2001-2002 F Bodies

I also got this response:

Basically the 0411 has a faster processor than the 4896 PCM and some of the internal memory was moved around.
