275/40/17 tires no longer being made?
« on: June 07, 2019, 09:57:56 AM »
So I currently have 275/40/17 Bridgestone Potenza RE760 tires on the back of my FC mounted on knock-off Cobra 17x9's.  I picked up a screw in a tire and nobody wants to patch it due to low tread depth.  Looking around to replace it on tire rack, there are very few tires that are made in that size.  Seems 17's in general are hard to find anymore.

Anyone know of a tire that will replace it and still fit with my setup?  I have it on BC coilovers and rear fenders were rolled/pulled to fit the current tires.  The car is used basically as a fun street toy.  I would like tires with some grip, but not be used up in 5,000 miles.  Current set lasted ~13,000 miles.

I understand grip vs longevity is a trade off, but I don't want to be buying tires every other year.

Thanks for any ideas.

So I realized there are more options and I just missed checking a box on the website  :banghead:

Now just to decide what to get which I understand everyone will have an opinion on.

I know this was over two months ago, but when I last looked at tires in this size, it seemed like the RT615k+ would be a great tire for mixed use. They're apparently really popular with the lemons guys because they are cheap and last a long time on track.

Good 17's are becoming more scarce, though.  As it is, I'm going to end up having to pick up a set of 18's since GTA is going to Yokohama as the spec tire, and they don't even make anything over like a 245 in 17".  TT tires in a 315 were basically limited to Hoosiers, NT01's, R888R's, and BFG's.  Even the 200TW options worth a crap are virtually nonexistent.

We use the RT615K+ size 274/40/17 on the rear of our FC lemons car and really like them. Good grip, easy to drive on the limit, good heat and wear resistance. The fact they're about the cheapest you can buy in that size is a nice bonus. Even cheaper than most other brands 255 size.
