Samberg vs Granny Speed Shop Subframe?
« on: March 07, 2019, 06:31:14 PM »
I am building a LS as we speak, but I am stuck on which subframe kit to go with. My dilemma, I can get a hood modification kit from Granny Speed Shop and keep the stock rack position, and keep my clearance, but I was wondering who all has used a Scoot hood and made it work with the stock position kit vs the Samberg with a bump steer correction from Samberg. Also, what was your clearance like with the Samberg kit? I plan to drive the car regularly, and don't want to be smashing oil pans.

Granny's really isn't relevant anymore. Too many compromises. With Samberg all you need is the pinto bump steer kit from speedway motors.

I had the Granny's kit around 2006. Don't bother. They were pioneers back then but didn't update with the competition.

I'm happy with my grannys kit, not to mention 400 cheaper than the competitors.

I have the grannies kit and wish could go back with a different one.  I will pay the extra money to get my hood to clear once i put a fast intake on.  Not only that by my oil pan pretty much rests on the rack and had to eliminate my sway bar bc that also rested on the rack..also good luck trying to get a phone call answered

Grannys: I never heard you have to remove the stock R1 swaybar. I think you can just leave your stock hood popped but still latched?

Samberg: I would like to know about the oil pan clearance too, I know from experience that the third of an inch the Hinson leaves below is enough to tear a hole. Yeah, it might not happen, but the round bars of the Samberg would probably be better than the square hollow bars of the Hinson that tear open there on potholes.

The only time the pan hits on the Samberg frame is if you screwed something up or are trying to get the motor as low as possible and went too far. Use an f body pan.
That being said they aren't being made anymore. I'd wait to see what Ronin come out with. Now that RHD are coming over I'd imagine there will be an uptick in swaps. Ronin is well positioned to capitalize. Plus they only make great products.
