World Class T-5 good choice for stock L33?
« on: December 05, 2018, 10:58:52 PM »
Swapping my Rx-7 from a 5.7 Junkyard efi smallblock to a 100k mile L33 Aluminum 5.3. I know the 4l60e i have i can make work, but i would love a manual, and also have a world class T-5 out of a 305 Trans am laying around i bought for the 5.7. I was looking around for t56ís and also transmissions out of a 350z, butttt I ran into a thread of people putting these WC T-5ís behind an LS! Ive only found install how-to guides and videos of them driving in rx-7ís, but ive never heard anyone talk about how long its Lasted. So i would love your opinion! I know the T-5s are weak, and that i would have to shift like a grandma, but being a broke 17 year old i cant think of any way id be able to afford an ls t-56 without selling my Miata right now. Anyone with experience of an Ls with a WCT5 behind it in an rx7? I figure with my car being fully gutted it might be light enough to withstand it. Who knows?

Thank you!

What do you want to do with the car?     If youíre nice to it, itíll live a while, but remember youíre at 2x the rated torque holding of that transmission.

My WC T5 made for a great clutch alignment tool once I yanked the input shaft out of it, but not much else.

Just save the money and go T56  :drive:

I had the t5 and by the time i got the correct parts to make it work I should have just went with the t56.

My t5 lasted a while behind my 5.3 at about 300 (dyno) but then the 5th started going out. I pulled it all and sold it as a package went to the t56 and never looked back.

I paid 1800 for my t56 and still dont regret it

but if you determined to make it work here are the details your looking for

https://www.502streetscene.net/forum/showthread.php?t=181938

so after i sold the sbc 305 and bought my lm7 5.3 from the Silverado i decided to search for a transmission...

I really wanted a t56 but i couldnt afford the 1200-1500 bill for the used trans so i ended up going with a t5.

i got some great info from this thread
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/manual...77-5-3-t5.html

Here is the parts list i used to make it work...
LS series T5 installation parts list:

Bellhousing casting number 3899621
Stock LS1 or flwheel, pressure plate and clutch
Pilot bearing GM part #12557583
Howe racing hydraulic throwout bearing #82870

and the lines

i got a 7/8th wilwood master from hinson already adapted for the fc

oh yea you have to do something about the gears for the speedo. But to be honest my cars speedo didnt work correctly for about 3-4 years  :D :D :drive: :drive:

First it didnt work at all then I got some gears from some old website and got it close using the cable but I think the speedo was still pretty far off bc of the 4.10 rear end ratio.

But...

Once I got the t56 then we swapped the integra electronic speedo and got my speedo correctly working

Here is another option that might be a better option for you vs the cost of a T56
