Junk work
« on: November 25, 2018, 01:16:08 PM »
I am helping out a friend of mine with his 4.8 turbo 3rd Gen Camaro.

I thought some of you may appreciate this work I am undoing from the guy that did the swap.

Jumper cable alternator wire, plastic pvc heater core adapters, lets use 2 hose clamps...wait it still leaks, PCV to nowhere

It should be a cool car when finished, I'll update progress here and post some videos too

Hey, at least it looks like they used actual silicone heater hose. They could have used garden hose!

That's true!  but I bet the stock 4th gen hoses would fit way better!

Was it a messy 'breakup' from who he paid to do this?  Seems like something done in haste maybe out of spite for no payment?  They can't be that dumb can they?

Have you ever met the typical "performance shop owner" and their associated "mechanics"?

This is the icong on the cake!  I fixed all the plumbing, and wiring, go to start the thing and it idles at 3000rpm!!  Fixed things like a mismatched throttle body, and still no dice.

Pull the intake, and its an LS3 rectangle port intake on 829 cathedral port heads!!

Bought some adapter plates since there are no good boost intakes for cathedral port heads unless you wanna spend $800

Yea, I really am not sure how long this motor will last...The crazy thing is that 2 different people have looked to see why it idles so high.

Biggest vacuum leak of all time!

Yup! It was actually leaking from the throttle body too, since they tried to put a 102mm TB on an LS3 intake with a 92mm opening

Nice catch on the intake mani...  That's one of those things you just can't believe someone would get wrong so it's easy to overlook.

Haha it is, but not surprising considering the other work on this car.  as soon as I plugged off the IAC I knew it had to be something crazy like the manifold.
