  8) Anyone in Louisiana have any local connection/ knowledge of where I can get some help to replace my stock rear-in? I have a 87 FC- sbc that I want to do a little drag racing with.

What are you looking for?   A stronger rear end option?

Yes, I've read about most of the option- granny's 8.8 cradle kit, Ronin 8.8 mount kit or your local rear drag speed fab shop which seems to be the most expensive option. I've been looking around on craigslist in my area for a parts Ford Explorer truck, no luck as of yet. I'm thinking this option might be a little less costly, any input?

Local junk yard should have a few exploders laying around. My brother had to go about an hour from his home in Delaware to find mine.

I'm not sure if I'll go IRS or not at this point just want something that will hold up when the time comes to add more horsepower. I got a price on replacing the rear with a solid 8.8 and was told the kit that holds the rear-end in place plus labor would be around 5,500 then I would have to buy the rear-in and break system then have installed. I'm not sure how much all that would be but I'm assuming another few thousand. Does this sound about right?

For $5500, a competent shop could do a ladder bar install including cost of the rear for that price!

That's what I was thinking. I'll keep checking around to see if I can find a more affordable shop plus research a few junk yard for explorer 8.8 to see which one comes alone first.
