Just regular rubber braided. I had a questionable setup with a small section of hose up to the fuel pr saute adapter. There was a lot of flex in it and it was in a place where I couldn't get spanners in it easily

Whilst waiting for my fuel parts I got on with a job I've been meaning to do for years.

That was to replace the wire I used for my fuel pump. I got some fuel safe wire and new terminals so I could do a proper job. I was initially a bit worried that the gauge I got was too thin compared to the exisiting setup, but the core was pretty much the same size but the outer sheath was thinner so I didn't have any issues fitting it into the top hat socket this time.

Job was pretty quick and easy so I am not sure why I didn't do it before. Only snag I hit was that the flow valve I fitted meant I had to shorten one of the posts on the fuel pump so I could get the nut on it.

Fuel system is now sorted apart from a bracket I need to make for the hardline and some heat sheilding.

I ended up creating a hardline that went directly from the fpr to the engine bay. This was not a fun job. Bending the hardline around the chassis with all the drive train in meant lots of swearing and bruised arms.

I went with Goodridge stuff this time as I want ptfe. These fittings are expensive but really easy to fit as you don't need a collet. They assemble just like regular an fottings.

I also made and fitted some reinforced rubber washers to take a little vibration out of the diff. I kind of stole the idea from Ronin who appear to supply a similar thing with their kit. I feel that this has helped a little. I no longer have the vibration at higher speeds but that could also be due to the tyres as mentioned before.

I am also going to use this on the shifter as that transmits a lot of noise.

I have also been trying to get my ride heights even all round.

Small wins. Fitted my ali hand brake button to match my shifter. I might polish these up a little so they more closely match the speedhut gauges.

Also finally managed to get the rear wiper off and fitted an ali bung

Sorry for the crap pictures, too lazy to get my decent camera.

So, it turns out that the battery terminals getting hot has nothing to do with the battery swelling.

I charged my new battery up today and it got very hot as before and now this one is also swollen (I double checked before charging it).

Needless to say I am very pi$%ed off about this.

I have contacted CTEK support to see what they have to say.

Grrr.

I'm afraid you're probably right about the vendors passing the blame back and forth.

I have these on all my equipment, and I've had Odyssey batteries last over a decade on them.

They're on sale for a great price now too.

Looks like that won't work here as its 120v. Don't think they ship overseas anyway.

As I have been bogged down trying to figure out issues with my Racelogic TC, I thought I'd get on with something else. I removed the alternator to make sure all the contact points were paint free to ensure it has a good earth. I then wired in the Sense wire just for shits and giggles.

I have a new steering wheel and low profile hub coming over the next few weeks. I went with a Nardi Gara so that I can move the steering wheel away from me a bit. I really wanted a Classic, but that had more dish on it.

The hub isn't going to allow the fitting of the horn as far as I can tell, so I am going to see if I can get creative and make it fit by carving the insides out.

In an attempt to resolve a driving position issue I have with the stock (miata 365mm) wheel (https://www.norotors.com/index.php?topic=27597.0) I have been experimenting with steering wheel position.

So after doing some crude calculations and finding out the dish on various Nardi wheels I ended up with the 350mm Gara (which is actually about 345mm).

I measured that I wanted the wheel about 35mm further away from me.

The Gara has a dish of 10mm. The classic (360mm) is 25mm dish and the deep corn has 60mm dish.

I ordered a fake NRG shorthub and drilled it out to fit a Nardi wheel. It was a bit messy, so not ideal. I then found the DND hub that is already drilled for Nardi fitment and got that shipped over from the states.

Bolting the Gara to the hub meant that the indicator stalks would have to be bent towards the dash as there is barely a fingers gap.

Measurement from top of cluster dome

With a spacer it gave a bit more room, but still not enough. The seating position was about perfect though so I may bend the stalks.

MX5 Nardi for reference

Of course what this all means is that I could have got the wheel I preferred, which was the Nardi Classic, however, I would have to make some serious mods or space out the horn button. As it stand I am not sure the horn will fit even with the spacer.

I'm tall and have the seat all the way back plus a little extra lean. I'm running an NRG quick release and a Renown 350dia 70mm dish wheel and it's absolutely perfect. Just a little far from the stalks.

I'm not tall. I have short legs, or long arms, that's why I need more distance from the wheel or I have to lean uncomfortably far back. I also have issues with elbow room and the bolsters.

Test fits of the new steering wheel. Even with the 12mm spacer the horn buttob doesn't fit properly. If I decide not to use the trim ring am going to source the horn button from the Classic as that appears to have more of an area hollowed out.

If I keep the trim ring then I will have to cut a hole in the back of this and create a new contact.

Finally bit the bullet and got this out for a rebuild

I was a bit disappointed to see my front hubs and dust covers are now rusty as anything due to the salted roads here. Grrr.
