The Lounge / Watches

Anyone else into watches?  I started wearing a cheap smartwatch I got for christmas a few years ago again, and it sparked my interest in getting something nice, I really enjoy not having to reach into my pocket to read the time off my phone.

I just bought one of these, and am already looking for another.  It seems like this new hobby could be as costly as cars!  :yay: Anyone else collect watches?

2000 lbs + 1400HP = ????  Got to hang out with David and the ToyMakerz team recently.  Hopefully I will be helping them on a new project that will be featured on a show.  Apparently its a big show on History Channel

Interior/Exterior / Preval Sprayers

Finally took the plunge into bodywork.  Painted a replacement fender for my wife's rav4.  I am using a preval sprayer, and it turned out ok.  A few little runs that I tried to fix but didn't really work out.

Doing the clear tonight with a preval, we'll see how it goes.  I should probably buy a cheap compressor and harbor freight guns.

I went to a local car show last weekend, and thought some of you guys may be interested.  Lots of cool stuff including a very nice Torino GT.  If you watch any reality car shows you may recognize the ToyMakerz.  They are a cool group, and build some cool cars. I will be going up to their shop soon and bringing my car up there.

Drivetrain / DIY Fuel Surge Tank

Has anyone built their own fuel surge tank?  I am thinking of building one from stainless because I can't weld aluminum.  I plan on hooking it to a fuel cell that is meant for an external pump.  Does this sound like a good idea?

I really hate to pay like $400 for a radium one

I am helping out a friend of mine with his 4.8 turbo 3rd Gen Camaro. 

I thought some of you may appreciate this work I am undoing from the guy that did the swap.

Jumper cable alternator wire, plastic pvc heater core adapters, lets use 2 hose clamps...wait it still leaks, PCV to nowhere

It should be a cool car when finished, I'll update progress here and post some videos too

Forced Induction/Nitrous / Turbo or Nitrous for my LT1?

Hey guys,

I am wanting more power in my LT1.  I already have a cam, and valvetrain mods, and also have ARP rod studs and main bolts.  Engine is a gen II SBC (LT1), 2 bolt main, stock crank.  What would be better for longevity, a 100 shot of nitrous or a turbo at 8 psi?  I have no problem changing pistons but don't want to spend the money on heads yet...

Suspension/Brakes/Wheels / Torque Arm, 3 Link or 4 Link?

At the last drift event, my larger stiffer tires were too much for the urethane bushings in my rear suspension links.  I destroyed all 8 of them (FB RX7 has a horrible 4 link rear)

I am planning on totally redoing the rear suspension and wanted some opinions on setup. 
1) Build a tri link that goes through the floor and is the same length as the lower links, and replace watts link with panhard bar.

2) move upper link mounting points so they are more parallel, use rodends on all links

3) design and build a triangulated 4 link setup, no need for a panhard bar

4) design and build a torque arm setup, fix watts link or build panhard bar

I know pro touring guys really like torque arms, and it may help with such a powerful motor in a light car

I really don't want to keep going through bushings, but the car works good when the bushings are intact

General Tech / Wheel stud removal

I cannot get the wheel studs on my front FC hubs to come out, even a sledge hammer didn't do anything.

Has anyone had this problem?  Im think there may be some weird corrosion between the hub and wheel studs.  Gonna try a buddies press later this week, but don't want to hurt the hub

Does anyone here want to do a quick machining job for me?  I might need some wheel spacers made, I will draw them up and can send a DXF.  I need them kinda quick as well.  I know a few of you guys have mills in your garage.

Cool little projects.  I like the CAP starter booster idea.  I need to pull my fuel tank to redo the pick up and am not looking forward to it.

Drivetrain / What oil do you run and how do you keep it cool?

I am thinking about changing the weight/grade of the oil I am running my LT1 and wanted to see what people use in racing applications for their SBC/LS1.  Right now I am running 5w30 conventional since the engine is new,  I didn't see any major oil pressure issues, but hot idle oil pressure was right at 25 psi.  I know that is technically correct for a street driven LT1 but I am thinking I may want a little more oil pressure when hot.  I am thinking of running a synthetic 5w40 or something but I am not entirely sure.  Also I am looking at getting a good oil cooler that has a fan and thermostat, any suggestions?
