Hinson Supercars / Re: Horrible experience with Hinson Supercars
« on: January 24, 2014, 03:54:28 AM »
Hinson supercars is not far from me,  I drop off packages at fedex which is just across the interstate from their new shop. I drove by a few weeks back to just see the setup... I've order a few things from them through ebay when in a time crunch, all ebay orders through them have been good.  But I will say whoever is doing their shipping likes screwing up their inventory... Im not complaining about getting extra parts  :)

I have been looking for them also... Been having bad luck so far. I found afew sites that advertised just the lens but when I ordered them I got a refund and a message saying they have not carried them in years... About to just convert back to stock or find a different kit. If you find any let me know.

yea no way would i go back to stock, sold my stock setup the night my lens broke lol.
Found a company that sell each side individually, see what they say monday when I call them. Keep ya posted.

No all the covers are not the same.  That's a Cwest knockoff which is much different than an RE Amemya knockoff.  Call these people and see.

Already called them, none in stock. I modified my lights anyway, just need the lens covers, I can make any lens covers work. I tried molding some out of lexan but couldn't heat the lexan enough to make it work correctly. Hopefully someone has a spare lens on here that they would sell.

Parts for Sale / WTB flush mount light lens for FD

Hi, I have a flush mount light setup on my rx7 fd, recently had a lens break and flew off my car. I've called several companies that have just the lenses listed for sale but when I call they do not have them in stock. Does anyone have a passenger side lens cover. If you do please email me at Flyinty@aol.com asap.
heres a pic of what the lights and lens cover. its and ebay kit but all of the lens covers are about the same.

^^^ Sounds like you have a small ground bias.  If you ground the 'signal' grounds in series with the 'lighting' grounds, you'll cause that bias internally (in the gauge).  If there's a single ground coming out of the gauge, make sure the gauges are grounded to their own solid ground point (a piece welded to the frame, dash support, etc).

I've gone as far as putting a threaded stud through the firewall behind a head and grounding the gauges to one side of the stud and the engine block to the other.  That solved ALL interior grounding issues.

Jordan is right on.   And I've done basically the same with sender/block/gauge grounding also.   It works well.

Yep bad engine ground....
I took off my ground wire for the engine and cleaned the terminals really good and reinstalled, and added another ground wire to the opposite side, charged the battery up and no more issues...  now im a happy camper. But yea with the car just sitting there it sprung a leak on the water pump but fixed that issue in about30 min so hopefully its time to get on the dyno this week. Thanks for the help, just didn't think twice about the ground on the engine.

To the guys running the speedhut gauges... Do you have any problems with the gauges, for instance the water temp, & oil pressure gauges. my water temp will rise up about 10 degrees when turning on the headlights, another 5 or so when hitting the brakes, and also when turning on the climate control. The oil pressure does the same but just started doing it more often, and it spikes from time to time. Turn the car off and it resets and then its fine. I've checked the voltage going to the gauge wires when turning the lights on  and so on and there's really no lose of power that should cause any issues. Also double checked the ground, its good. Even used test leads to the battery for grounds and powers and still does it... Also the gauge wires for the water temp and oil pressure run directly to the engine, Also put the signal wires for the dash lights and power supply on relays still no luck on the gauges working properly.  The fuel gauge is using the oem wire but it reads perfect and no issues with it, Tach is ran to the ecu, works fine, Speedometer is gps so no hook up besides the supply harness that allows all the power, illumination and ground wires together to the converter box.
I'm out of things to try... Anyone got any suggestions or ideas on whats causing the gauges to fluctuate.
also I'm running a Braille battery, its small but the voltage is right at 14volts at idle, even with all the accessories on its still at 14volts.  Thanks for the help in advance.

Suspension/Brakes/Wheels / Hinson Bump Steer Kit... questionable.
« on: May 07, 2011, 04:17:58 PM »
I bought a hinson bump steer kit back in december 2010 for my rx7 build... Just recently I finished up my car, but when I took it to the alignment shop (trailered there). We noticed the Heims that they sent me were the wrong thread pitch, They thread on but are loose and wiggle on the inner tie rod when the jamb nut isn't tight, even threaded all the way on. The inner tie rods are brand new oem's, even tried them on my old ones, same problem. Finally just broke down and bought another kit for my car from a different company, They fit perfect.   But the heim joints hinson sales are the wrong thread pitch for the inner tie rods, I believe other people are having this problem with the complaint that the jamb nut doesn't stay tight.  I could see the heim very easily pulling off the inner tie rod after some use and wear and tear.  But buyers beware before buying them from hinson. When I get a chance I'll go actually find out what thread pitch they are.  I emailed hinson last week but i know they had phone lines down due to the storms but also I'm in alabama as well about 60 miles from them. But yet to hear back from them about  the issue.

the ones they sent me were the wrong pitch thread.... didn't even install them after noticing that...  they could strip out and have a failure very easily.

got my speedhuts in, pretty simple to install, looks great to me and everyone who has seen my car.
