Title: Fuel Cell Cage Material
Post by: freeskier7791 on November 22, 2019, 09:59:07 AM
Any opinions on fuel cell cage material?  Currently have it modeled with 1 1/4" X 0.083" wall square tube, Could I go smaller so it can be lighter?  I will be adding 1/8" plate pads where the square tube lands on the existing frame rail, just didn't model them in yet.  I will also add some gussets to cover the open tube ends and tie them into the other tubes

NASCAR uses 1x1x.077", which is what I went with.  Even that's overkill.

Thanks man, I will probably do that, where did you get it from?

1x1 0.83 on my car.    I think it's plenty beefy.   I have a Fuel Safe cell though, so that helps too.

Your setup is super nice!  I found the Nascar stuff and .083 wall for, $27 for a 20' stick so I am going to use one of those

I get all my steel (and most of my plastics) from Race City Steel in Denver.

I like them, their price is really good on that 1 x 1
