1989 Mazda RX-7 W/ LS1 Swap
« on: June 13, 2011, 06:18:53 PM »
Just cross-posting from my Craigslist ad:   http://dallas.craigslist.org/mdf/cto/2438594782.html

Selling my 1989 Mazda RX-7 GXL with LS1/T56 swap.
I've had this car for about a year now as a project but have lost interest/time so I'm looking to sell and move on.

Since the car is a 1989, it is considered a S5 (Series 5) RX-7. The GXL package was the top of the line package for the naturally aspirated RX-7 and shared the same 4 piston brake calipers of the Turbo II. The car has a sunroof, power locks, windows, and side mirrors. The S5 RX-7 can also be identified by the more attractive rear tail lights, front bumper, and body molding, along with some interior differences.

The car has an LS1/T56 6 speed from a 2002 Pontiac Trans AM WS6. It was installed using a Granny's Speed Shop swap kit.

More engine info:
- Dyno'd at 370RWHP (Have dyno sheet)
- Rebuilt approximately 5k miles ago
- Meziere electric water pump (Worth over $500 by itself)
- LS6 intake manifold
- Aggressive cam (don't know details on the specs, but gives the car a nice lope at idle)
- BBK Long tube headers with O2 extensions
- Full 2 1/2" exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers
- New spark plug wires with thermal covers
-Corvette Fuel Filter/Regulator
- Hurst shift knob
- Recently replaced Mass Air Flow sensor
- Custom tuned ECU

The car itself retains WORKING power steering, something many of these swaps go without. All of the factory instrument cluster gauges work as well (Oil pressure, coolant temp, fuel gauge, battery volts) including the speedometer. Originally these cars had cable driven speedo's but I have converted it to an electric speedo using the factory gauge face. It does need calibration on the GM computer for it to read accurately though.

- Jags That Run radiator kit with Volvo electric fan and shroud
- Grannys Speed Shop sway bar mount spacers
- Wilwood 7/8" clutch master cylinder
- Stainless steel clutch line
- Working speedometer
- Power steering
- Aluminum driveshaft
- Heater and fan blower both work
- Clutch type LSD (Limited Slip Differential)
- Stainless steel brake lines all around
- Tokico Blue shocks/struts all around
- New wiper blades
- Newly Rebuilt Alternator
- Relocated new Optima red top battery to passenger storage bin using 1/0 wire
- New Denso 1020 fuel pump (Same as Toyota Supra fuel pump)
- Check engine light has been wired to GM computer
- Resealed both taillights and replaced weather stripping
- Sitting on Mustang Bullitt 17" rims with 275's in back with 245's in front

It does not currently have A/C, but I have the parts needed to add it and can get you in contact with someone who will provide custom bent lines to look factory. It also does not currently have a radio installed more than happy to negotiate putting one in.

I have a blue title on the car but it is not currently registered or inspected. The best I can tell, it has never been wrecked, has been repainted at some point in time (still with factory color), and exterior has minor scratches/dings. The interior is in very good condition for its age and the seats are excellent. Dash has no cracks but needs new demister vents.

I have numerous spare parts that will go along with the car as well.

This car is not too far off from being a good daily driver and would take even less effort to make into a track car (either drag racing or road racing). It is definitely a head turner when people hear the noise this RX-7 makes.

Please don't hesitate to ask any questions. You can reply to this ad in an e-mail or call me at 9O3-2 one 5 - OOO6

Asking $6500 OBO

Damn if I wasn't balls deep in my own swap I'd probably pick this up.

Clean body, Clean interior, and only a couple grand more than a decent stock T2 and it comes with running ls1 swap? seems like a good deal to me. only thing i don't like is the unfinished wiring, but that can easily be taken care of.
