Local LS1 RX7 SoCal (sonicgroove's build thread)
« on: December 04, 2010, 11:48:33 AM »
Hey guys,

Plan on tackling the project. Is there any local guys in the LA area available to show me there LS1 RX7s and perhaps give me some tips on the swap? Thanks

-groovin

*I'm not sure if this is okay, but if possible could a mod relocate this thread to the proper location? If not, I can start the thread in the proper section, thanks*

Thanks man, I appreciate that. I head up the Mt. High quite a bit to snowboard, perhaps on my way back I can stop by.

Other guys are Brismo7, Danzan, 65imp, Bodie, frijolee, Jacklin, and I'm sure there are more. I've got Bodie's build thread, but it was lost on the previous forum. Can rebuild it or just post pics, if you really need them, but there are plenty other build threads, if you just wanna look at pics.

Hey pez,

Thanks for the reply. Ill see if I can find any info on their builds here.

Btw im considering your mounts for my project. As far as I can tell, theres no issues with power steering or ac clearance with your mounts, correct? How's the tranny mount coming along?

Tranny mount is on hold as Hinson's and Granny's work well with my mounts.  When my tranny mount gets finished, it will be better than theirs, I just haven't had time to work on it.

Engine mounts are (I'm kinda biased) the best design on the market.  Ease of engine installation, ease of service, and ease of PS an AC clearance is far beyond the others... And I've used all of them.  O, and they weigh the least too ;).  Not by much, I'm sure.  Currently have them instock and ready to go.

Of the group mentioned, I think only Frijolee and 65imp have build threads.  Both are outstanding reads that will leave you depressed because your car will never be that nice.... don't worry, mine won't either. :yay:

Got to love active members. Thanks for chiming in guys.

At the moment, I'm just doing some extensive research to see what I'm getting myself into. I don't mind if it takes months to do as I have multiple cars to drive. I just want the outcome to be a reliable daily driver. So far I am trying to piece back together any parts that are missing and start the body work. The body is in good condition, just some minor dings here and there but the passenger side skirt has a large dent about half a jr baseball bat. Will have to spot weld it and pull it out then bondo it. I don't know if I want to maintain the stock sunrise red color or go with a color that fits my taste, white or black.

I am actively looking for a deal on a complete LS1/T56 drivetrain, 2000+ and camaro preferred.

My fenders are straight, but may be interested in some s5 side skirts if you have any.

Thanks for the offer in regards to welding. Will definitely PM you if I need anything done. What metals do you work with?

I finished reading Marcus' build not to long ago. Man... what a car it turned out to be, not without your typical delays and hardships of course, but his dedication and perseverence is what motivates me.

I'm currently overlooking your thread, IMP.

I'll be getting off work soon, 7am to be exact. Then will be going snowboarding afterwards, but on my way back I was planning to stop by and check out Marcus' car since from Mt High I'll be passing through rancho cucamonga. I sent him a PM, haven't heard from him  yet. If your in the area too, Daniel, perhaps we could meet up as well.

I'll take pics of my car so you guys can see what I'll be working with. I'll try to document everything I can.

I can weld whatever you want steel, aluminum, stainless steel. Never really had a chance to play with some titanium though.
