Setup change! Sold my 7064 to my buddy for his (my old) 1jz powered 280z

Now running a efr 7670! Twin scroll t4 with twin scroll manifold. Need to redo the intake setup... also planning on switching oil / water lines around.

I'm getting better at tig welding... still need more practice though!












Test drove it a little today. With wet roads, any boost equaled instant wheel spin! Will post again once it drys up...

Also got the cruise finally working... just had to fab up the cable!

Wow, those widebands are RIGHT there, aren't they?  Any issues burning up sensors with them that close?

I've never had a problem... OEM setups are similar having the sensors very close.

I replace widebands every 20k or sooner anyways, and the narrow bands are cheap too. At least they are super easy to access.

As an Audi mechanic, I really appreciate things that are easy to work on... So I've setup a lot of things on this with that in mind.

Can you post what kind of mileage you're getting now after the rotary was removed.

With the rotary (rebuilt, good running shape) I was getting 17-18 babying it. More like 13-15 my normal driving style.

With the 1jz I've seen almost 30 on a long freeway cruise (babying it). I drive it pretty hard and average 20-25. I do pulls everyday every trip mind you! Worst millage I've ever gotten with the 1jz is around 18... this was on a tank I did a lot of tuning, back to back pulls etc.

So overall it's much, much better.


Also the powerband is light years better.

Thanks for the detailed response.

In my red RX-7 I had the rotary engine and it had a constant oil leak and I kept failing emissions inspections and the mileage was poor.

Each time I took the car out for a drive I never felt confident driving it because in the back of my head I waited for something to go wrong.

After the removal of the rotary engine I use it as a daily driver and excellent gas mileage and reliability.

The same applies to my montego blue rx-7.  I bought that as a shell in unbelieveable condition and its my daily driver aswell.

The only issues that I've had are replacing the ignition coils on both the RX-7s and new header gasket in the montego blue RX-7.  Other than that they run solid.

Finally, let's also keep this in mind.  When these 3rd Generation RX-7s came out in 1993 - Even the 87 Octane fuel did not cost $4.00 a gallon.  So, you could justify driving a rotary powered RX-7.  But look at where we are today. Almost $4.25 just for the 87 Octane.
