DIY F body alternator upgrade/repair
« on: May 10, 2010, 03:20:02 PM »
when i did my first 2004 GTO harness mod, i noticed that there was no PCM turn-on.

i did a little research & learned that there is a self exciting regulator, that needs no PCM input.

several of us have made this mod.

there is only one part to buy D702SE regulator.  they are available from several places.  just google the part number.

pic 1.  the top of the stock F body alternator.
pic 2.  pry off the cap, or drop the alternator off of the roof of a 2 story building
pic 3  the D702SE
pic 4  the regualtor, rectifier & brushes.

there is one solder joint & two screws to disassemble.  DO NOT MIX UP THE SCREWS.  the power screw is insulated.  they have the same threads, so are easy to mix up.

just attach & solder the D702SE terminal.  then ditch the infamous red wire.

while you are in there, you might as well replace the brushes.
When the shit hits the fan, you'll find out who your friends are.
