315 tires on FC
« on: February 03, 2013, 08:54:41 AM »
How many of you are running 315's on an FC?  What is your setup?
wheel size
spacers
coilovers
body mods (flares, body panels)
camber

I saw that BobbyJasan runs 315/35-17... just wondering if others have been able to get this wide.

I ran them with a 50mm flare -Stance coilovers, 17x10.5 RPF1 +17 and a 20mm spacer... there was still tons of room (thanks flares).

might be a pic in my build thread.

i just finished mounting my 275s on my stock fendered FC.
wasnt an issue in back, but the front required a fairly aggressive pull.
We'll see if it rubs under hard driving once it warms up...

275/40/17 RA1s on 17x9 +26s with 3/8" spacer up front.
Rev stroke coilovers

less than a 1/4" clearance tire to strut

i wish i could go wider but i really dont see that happening without fenders.

Any shots down the side of the car? Are your rear rims the standard 17x9 +24 mustang wheels? How much rear camber?

I have the ronin widebody with stock style struts and run 295/35/18 on 18x10.5 +15 with a 3/4" spacer. There is plenty of room in the rear for 315s or possibly 335s. If I had coilovers I could probably fit 315s up front with the right wheel.

I didn't realize Enkei made rpf1 in 17x10.5.  At least they don't any more.  Size chart is attached.  What other options do I have for a lightweight 17x10.5 wheel?

335/35/17s on 17x11" wheels in the back with Tri-point fenders (Ronin makes these now) at "no-rub" ride height

I've lowered it since and now they will rub over larger bumps/dips

The Ronin widebody kit is about a +85mm front + 80mm rear, however you have to be careful about just doing math at the apex because in back our minimum clearnace is at about 10 and 2 o'clock on the fender lip.  I can say that 315s fit easily in back, 335s require careful offset selection and some trimming but work fine as well.

I always recommned customers run a tire section 20-30 mm wider than the published rim specs.  Typically that means we recommend 10.5s with a 285 or 295 section up front and 11s or 11.5s on 315 rears.  I run 295s all around just to simplify my life.  If you're into a 335s we'd recommend a 12" rear rim if you want to shoot for a nice squared off sidewall.

You might conisder going 18s instead of 17s.  Tire selection is quite a bit better.  Overall tire diameters are shorter which is very helpful up front as fore/aft considerations come into play.  Last I heard, Josh18s2k (sp?) was running a reverse stagger with 18s up front and 17s in the back that worked very well for him.

CCW's are the go to guys for multi piece wheels and the used pricing is barely more than new so I'd just get what you want.  SSR Type F wheels can be had in an 18x11 one piece.  RPF1s are about the best bang for the buck going, but on the downside they've been done to death.  Weds tc105n are the lightests, only cost a hair more than the Enkei's and require the least spacer (that's what I run).  Those 4 wheels were the only one's I investigated significantly.  If you don't care about weight, Mustang FR500 knock offs are my all time favorite cheap wheel for FCs.

FWIW we do have an FC widebody in stock so no waiting if you decide to go that way.  You can order the full kit or the rears alone.  If you pull the trigger I'll give you full specs and recommendations on wheel sizing.

PS my widebody built up starts here:  http://www.norotors.com/index.php?topic=1274.msg23779#msg23779.  The car that originally inspired my quest to find the tri-points was this one...

He's also running a Ronin hood (back when it was Ati-Hardt).   :yay:  He could have done a better job at optimizing the gaps around his headlights and he did cut open the topside vent, but every time I see shots of this car it just makes me say "damn!!!!!!!!!".

I like some of the body kits - the photo of the blue car you posted is incredible.  But I would rather go the flare route.  I am always reluctant to spend extra money to make the car look nice when I know I'm going to drag it out on the track and bang it up.  I realize there is a functional/practical reason for body kits: we need more tire room.  But if I can get it for a fraction of the cost with a flare, that's my preference.

I'm reluctant to step up to 18" wheels.  I don't need the extra room to clear brakes etc, and to spend that much more money for wheels and tires for a very marginal increase in grip makes me shy away.  Not to mention the weight penalty.  Which takes me to the mustang wheels.  I don't mind the way they look, it's just that they are known for being pretty heavy (~25lbs).  I see the 96 vette GS came with 17x11 wheels, but they have a 50mm offset, which I suspect would require a big honking spacer.

Besides stepping up to an 18 or going with a fairly heavy mustang wheel, other options?

Just for comparison, a Weds tc105n in a 17x9 is 15.7 lbs.  My 18x10.5s are only 18.4 lbs per.
