BBK 1 3/4 fox body mustang longtubes, $260 used off ebay, and came with 3" flanges. GM parts direct ls1 header flanges, $14 bucks each, $12 shipping, and about 6 hours in the garage. I cut the ford flanges off with a die grinder, took the headers up to a local muffler shop and we used an expander to bring the primary tubes back to round. I tapped them in about 3/4 of the way in to the flanges (they are very thick, about 1/2"). I then welded them up on the inside, and groud smooth with a big burr bit. I also went ahead and cut the collectors of and put the 3" ones on. The ones that were on the headers are 2 1/2" flange, but the collector is 3". They fit perfect. I had to cut the heat shield mount, and bend down the ears that stick off the k-member but other than that that is it. The bottom of the headers sit about level with the drop down in the hinson tranny x-member, so I think I am going to make one that drops a tad more, on both sides and run the exhaust over it.

Yes, definitly happy with the outcome. I measure the ground clearance, it was 4 7/8 at the lowest pont, the tranny x-member was 5 1/4 at its lowest point. The car sits down a bit in the front, worn out suspension.  I don't know if they would clear a lt1 type clutch, but they wont work for an lt1 due to the primary spacing. BTW, bbk has a scratch and dent section, with test or used headers.  You can order them from their site, before I found these, they had several sets of the same ones, but they were chrome for around $235 and may have had some ceramic too. It actually didn't hurt the coating on these at all, aside from already being pretty scratched up my mod didn't really hurt the looks. I painted the flanges with vht so maybe the flanges will last at least a few days before rusting!

Yes, should be the 15940 for ceramic, and the 1594 for chrome. I would check on the bbk scratch and dent section, last time I was on there they had a few sets, I think $230 or less for chrome, I can't remember for ceramic. I would imagine they would work fine for a 5.0 too, bbk s&d had the 1 5/8 ones for $175 bucks.  I know there is a rx7, I think it has a 351 in it that is using the bbk 351 swap headers. Expect a couple of weeks on the flanges, I had ordered mine on may 2nd, and just got them saturday from gmpp. Black fc, I havn't forgot about the pics, I am going to get under it again to put some heat sleeve over my o2 wires in the next couple days and I will snap you some pic of the bellhousing clearance.

Yep right here, granny's mounts. Just had to knock in the firewall a little bit.

There's more info in my project thread. I forgot to post in here.

In my Ls1 FC thread there's more detail.

But here's where I had to hit it in. Driver's and Passenger's side were almost the same asfar as clearance.

Here;s the clearance between the firewall and header.

Finally a pic of the passenger side firewall clearance.

And, they're fully welded now. :yeah:

Took some pics of the brake master in as requested by NYtoy.  Keep in mind the engine is not bolted down and can be pushed back about an inch closer to the firewall.  The only thing posing a problem is one of the nipple bolts that holds down the coilpack to the bracket, but we'll see how it is after bolting the motor down.

I had to rotate the shifter linkage 180 degrees and I will be making a new bracket for that. I figured it would be easier to modify the trans tunnel with a hammer than trying to mess with the headders. I still need to weld the ls1 flanges on and cut the 2 bolt flanges at the collectors off. I also need to relocate the 02 sensor bungs. It seem like a lot of work, but I have more time than money and it still is about half the cost of other long tube options.

I've always been curious what poorboys were as well.

Are these only for 2nd gen cars or will they fit in an FD as well?

I will add more to this as I have a set in the works right now.  I got a set uncoated from BBK and plan to have them coated myself after I finish them.   8)

Where is the scratch and dent section on BBK's website? I can't seem to find it.
